If you've ever wondered, "I wonder if authors enjoy tormenting their characters to oblivion and back, like sadistic monsters," this novel with answer that question with a resounding YES! YES THEY DO!
For all the pain, it's actually not a bad story. If you've got masochistic tendencies or lack any form of empathy for characters in novels, I can't recommend it enough. If you've do have empathy, maybe think twice, but give it a chance.
