I absolutely love this novel. The main character isn’t your typical perfect mother and that’s what makes her feel so real. In her previous life, she was an assassin, so naturally, being a gentle, traditional mom doesn’t come easily to her. But she tries. She truly tries to raise her children with the right values: to not be pushovers, to work hard, to study, and most importantly, to become strong enough to protect their family.
She’s a widow with five children, which makes her an easy target in the eyes of others. If she had been an ordinary woman, she might have given up, maybe even taken a dark path like selling her children or ending her life. But not her. She stood firm.
At first, she was clumsy and reckless when it came to parenting but as time passed, she grew to love them deeply. She became their shield, their guide, and their fiercest defender.
What I really admire is her strength of character. She has boundaries. Just because you ask nicely doesn’t mean she’ll say yes. If she doesn’t want to do something, she won’t. And if someone dares to frame or wrong her? Good luck because whatever you throw at her, she’ll send it back at you 100 times harder. She’s not someone you mess with lightly.
A strong, complex, and unforgettable woman. This story had me hooked from beginning to end.
