The story is fine, but the "translation" makes it unreadable, just like all the unedited MTL coming out of Webnovel these days.
The translation here is ripped from Webnovel (technically ripped from a site that ripped from a site that ripped from Webnovel, but close enough), and the unedited MTL Webnovel posts has gotten AWFUL lately. You'd expect the quality of MTL to get better over time as the technology improves, but unfortunately it's the prompts they're feeding the AI that are ruining the translations, not the MTL program itself.
Half of each chapter is third person narration that has been very poorly converted into first person "thoughts" and italicized, which is exactly as terrible as it sounds. Every new novel posted on Webnovel these days has this same problem and is completely unreadable garbage.
Go read an old novel instead, preferably one that was translated by an actual human. New "translations" are dead.
